The Applied Superconductivity Lab (ASCLab) was organized in 1998, from the first lab of cryogenics and superconductivity in SouthWest JiaoTong University (SWJTU) in Chengdu. It is renamed as the Applied SuperConductivity Laboratory (ASCLab) of SWJTU in 1997.
The chief staffs of ASCLab have been in the area of reseach, Cryogenics and Superconductivity, in one institution of Commission of Science Technology and Industry for National Defense since 1970. Our group is the first one which began to study on the applications of superconductor in China. There are four professors and three of them win the special allowance from the government. ASCLab focuses on research on the superconductivity application in the transportation field and the energy sources field. More than 6 science and technology majors are involved in, electromagnetic properties of superconductor, superconductiing electrotechnics, superconducting electronics, system engineering on application of superconductors ( the HTS maglev vehicle etc.).
ASCLab have developeded some special apparatuses: Microwave Superconducting Test System, HTS Maglev Measurement System (SCML-01), HTS Maglev Measurement System (SCML-02), HTS Maglev Dynamic Measurement System (SCML-03) and HTS Maglev Test Vehicle System "Century". The total investment is up to £¤6,000,000.
ASCLab has presided and accomplished more than ten projects from CSTIND (Commission of Science Technology and Industry for National Defense), NSFC (Nature & Science Fund Commission), ¡°863 project¡± (the National High Technology Research and Development Program of China) etc. In 1970¡¯s, ASCLab was designing a microwave quantum amplifiers using low-temperature superconducting magnets (4.2 K). In 1980 this project passed the technical identification. From 1978 to 1988, ASCLab finished a preject about the LTS microwave cavity system and developed the first LTS microwave cavity sample successfully. In 1987 ASCLab started to study HTS bulk and its application. In 1980¡¯s ASCLab had accomplished ¡°863 project¡± and NSF projects and so on.
During the period of the national 9th five-year-plan, our group presided the ¡°863 project¡± and ¡°211 Project¡± (Reform Plan of Teaching Contents and Curriculum of Higher Education of the 21st Century). After the systematic study, the first man-loading HTS maglev test vehicle in the world¡ª ¡°century¡± was born in ASCLab on Dec. 31th, 2000. Comments from Committee of Experts in Superconductivity of ¡°863 project¡± were ¡°By hard work of the group, China made an important breakthrough of basic research of HTS maglev application and other related technology. Now we can play a leading role in this field in the world. The creationary work also lays a foundation to apply the HTS maglev technology in the transportation or other fields, and guides to a long-term development in the subject.¡±.¡°Century¡± was awarded the special honor for the advancement of science technology in Sichuan and Top. 10 Advancements of Science Technology of Chinese universities in 2001¡±.
Since 2000, twenty-six papers have been indexed by SCI and twenty-seven papers by EI. Two patents have been given copyright. Selected publications are ¡°Glossary of Superconducting Electronics¡± (Standard of Ministry of Electronic Industry SJ/T 10140-91). ¡°Application of Superconductors¡± (in Chinese) and ¡°HTS Microwave Circuit¡± (translation version), two English academic composing by international cooperation and one proceeding of ISMAGLEV¡¯2002 (edited). Prof. Wang was the chairman, consultant, academic commissioner and session chairman in ISMAGLEV¡¯2002.
ASCLab had won the National Prize for the Labor Day. And some staff had won the National Excellent Researcher, ¡°the National Examplary Teacher¡±, Mao Yisheng prize, Zhan Tianyou prize and other over 10 honors.
Current projects are ¡°863 project¡±, NSFC, ¡°211 projects¡± , and Specialized Research Fund for the Doctoral Program of Higher Education etc.
